Hostal In Madrid Guide
Staying in a Hostal in Madrid is one of the most economical forms of accommodation. This page explains the difference between a hostal and other types of accommodation, and gives you information about some officially registered hostals in good central positions. You’ll see a list of several hostals, together with links to their websites, if they have them. You’ll also see their phone numbers.
What Is A Hostal In Madrid?
A hostal shouldn’t be confused with a Youth Hostel. In a hostal you will have your own room and more often than not, your own en-suite bathroom too. There may be a restaurant or café attached, but generally breakfast is not included. A hostal is a great place to stay if you’re on a budget, but still want the privacy that a hotel can offer. I’ve stayed in a couple of hostals in Madrid and both times I was amazed at how clean and modern they were for the price.
Hostals in Madrid range from 1 star to 3 stars. A 3 star hostal will typically have central heating, air-conditioning, TV and telephone in the room and a laundry service. Some 3 star hostals also have room service and a bar. Whereas in a hostal with 1 star they will offer a TV in the room and heating as basics, although many do offer more.
A Youth Hostel is quite different from a Hostal and is more for students or backpackers. Youth hostels offer communal sleeping areas or shared rooms.
