The Hotel Moderno Madrid couldn’t be closer to the centre of the city. Within a few steps you have the bustling Puerta del Sol square, and all the shops, bars and restaurants you will need. You’re also close to some of Madrid’s most impressive buildings, such as the Royal Palace, the buildings surrounding the Plaza Mayor and the Royal Theatre. The Hotel Moderno itself has a stylish exterior dating from 1850, and has been refurbished inside to give it a light and airy feel.

The reception has a small seating area, and there are loads of information leaflets about local attractions and nightlife. This hotel has a very refreshing feel to it thanks to the cream marble walls and spotlights dotted in the ceiling. The receptionist when I visited was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area. There’s also a lounge area with parquet flooring, ornate rugs and comfortable sofas.

The Hotel Moderno Madrid has room service available for drinks, there’s also a laundry service, free wi-fi internet throughout the building, satellite TV, car hire and public parking within 50 metres of the hotel with special discounted rates for hotel guests. The hotel will also make reservations for guests to go to restaurants, tours, golf courses and shows. Buffet style breakfast is available in the restaurant, which has a modern, fresh feel to it.

Business people will find there’s a room available for meetings, and the hotel can provide a fax service and internet connection.

Rooms

The Hotel Moderno Madrid has 97 rooms. 17 of them have really nice terraces with seating areas and excellent views over to the Puerta del Sol square. Some of the rooms with terraces also have a hydro-massage bath. As standard, all rooms have a full bath, hairdryer, AC, safe, TV with international channels and pay TV channels, direct dial telephones, optional piped music and sound proofed windows.

The rooms feel clean and spacious and have beautiful wooden floors and modern décor.

Hotel Location And Facilities

The Hotel Moderno Madrid is one of the last buildings in a row on the Calle Arenal, before you reach Puerta del Sol. The Puerta del Sol square is the official centre of Madrid, and you’ll find a huge El Corte Ingles supermarket and department store just 1 minute walk from the hotel.

Along the same street as the hotel, you’ll be spoilt for choice by the number of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. The Hotel Moderno Madrid is also only about 50 metres from the famous nightclubs Joy and Palacio Gaviria. Within 100 metres is also Calle Mayor which leads to the impressive Plaza Mayor square, which is brimming with restaurants, bars, street artists and entertainers.

The metro is less than 50 metres from the hotel, and you can choose from several lines within Sol metro station.

How To Get From The Airport To The Hotel

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take 30 minutes at the most, and cost 22 to 25 euros (including airport supplement), depending on the amount of traffic and assuming there is no excess baggage (that all baggage fits inside the boot and interior of the taxi).

Via Metro: You can take various metro routes directly from the airport to arrive at Sol metro near the Hotel Moderno Madrid. Line number 8 leaves from inside the airport between terminals 1 and 2. The quickest route is provided below with the stations where you need to change:

Metro: Mar de Cristal (Pink Line, L8) Then change and head for Goya (Brown Line, L4) Then change and head for Sol (Red Line, L2).

Via Bus: You can take a public EMT bus (they are red) from the airport to Avenida America. The number bus that takes this route is the 115. From there it’s quicker to change to the metro.
