Review Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid

Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid
The Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid is in a beautiful building that used
to be the church of the Holy Cross (Iglesia de la Santa Cruz). There’s
a pleasant square of the same name right outside, and the Hotel Plaza
Mayor Madrid is in a peaceful area within walking distance of the commercial
centre of Madrid. It was totally refurbished in 1997, and inside has
a modern feel. It also has a stunning loft apartment for 2 people.
Hotel Facilities
One of the most positive points about the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid,
is its exceptionally friendly service. All the staff seem genuinely
happy to help you. As well as this the hotel has: a lift, 24-hour reception,
vending machine in the lobby, comfortable lounge with TV, internet
and free wi-fi in the café. The hotel provides a breakfast buffet
at an extra charge of 7.50 euros (plus 7% tax), which you can enjoy
on the first floor.
There were lots of useful tourist information leaflets in reception.
Business Facilities
The Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid offers business travellers and groups
a small hall for private meetings and parties of up to 30 people.
Rooms
There are 31 rooms in the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid, and 1 suite. The
suite is called the ‘Suite de Palomar’ and you’ll
find it in the loft. It has beautiful sloping beamed ceilings, parquet
flooring, modern and colourful furniture, and best of all, its own
private terrace on the roof with lovely views across the historic rooftops
in this old quarter of Madrid.
The other rooms are equally as well decorated, and each one contains:
a full en-suite bathroom, AC and CH that you can adjust from your room,
satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, and a safe (double rooms only).
Another bonus of this hotel is that all rooms have external views
to the street and the Plaza Santa Cruz.

The Parish Church Next To The Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid
From outside the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid I could here accordion players
across the square, birds in the trees and the chatter of people sitting
and taking it easy in the square. It’s really in a nice peaceful
spot on a very quiet road.
There’s a great café – bar across the square called ‘Corner
Café’ and they’re great for breakfasts or lunchtime
snacks. I’ve eaten there many times and it’s cheap.

The Pedestrian Street That Runs By The Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid
A pedestrian street runs down the side of the hotel. With the hotel
on your right, turn left out of this street and you’ll see a
big archway that is one of the entrances to the Plaza Mayor. This is
a great place to soak up the atmosphere while stopping in one of the
many restaurants for a coffee.
urn right out of the hotel and walk for 2 minutes and you’ll
come to an Arab Spa that also has a restaurant and tea room. You can
even get a massage there. On the whole the architecture in this quarter
of Madrid is exquisite and you can pass hours just strolling the streets.
The main shops, bars and restaurants are also with 5 minutes if you
head to Puerta del Sol.
How To Get From The Airport To The Hotel
Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport take about 30 minutes and cost 22
to 25 euros (including airport supplement), depending on traffic volume,
and assuming you haven’t got excess baggage (that all baggage
fits inside the boot and interior of the taxi).
Via Metro: You can take various metro routes directly from the airport
to arrive at Sol metro near the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid. Line number
8 leaves from inside the airport between terminals 1 and 2. See below
for the best route:
Metro: Colombia (Pink
Line, L8) Then change and head for Principe
de Vergara (Purple Line, L9). Then take the line to Sol (Red
Line, L2).
Via Bus: The red EMT public bus from the airport travels as far as
Avenida America. The number bus you need to get to Avenida America
is the 115. From there I’d advise you to change to the metro
because it’s quicker.
In A Nutshell
The Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid is excellent value for money, considering
its location and the quality of the rooms. The service is excellent,
and you have Madrid’s most beautiful buildings, and commercial
centre on your doorstep.
