You’ll find several Tryp Hotels in Madrid of both 3 and 4 stars. We visited one of the most central Tryp Hotels in Madrid: the Tryp Cibeles Hotel. This is a 4 star hotel, just off the central through road of Gran Via. The hotel is in a beautiful old and elegant building, in a classical style. It’s one of the most attractive buildings you can see on Gran Via.

Reception is on the first floor which you can get to either by lift or stairs. In the lift there’s a weather forecast pinned to the wall. Just off there is a sumptuous lounge with a high glass ceiling and a small bar. The lounge is really comfortable and is decorated in earthy African browns, golds and yellows. There are green plants and majestic pillars and a central chandelier. It’s grand, but contemporary, and there’s piped jazzy music.

The facilities at this Tryp Hotel Madrid include: Bar, lounge and breakfast restaurant, laundry service and room service. Car rental, baby-sitting on request, fax, and lockers are available.

Business Facilities

For business travellers the facilities include: an air-conditioned meeting room that holds 30 people, cloakroom, postal service, telephones, video, fax and photocopying, notice boards and (if booked in advance), video conference service, overhead projector, simultaneous interpretation, conference recording, secretary, screens and hostess service and a sound system.

There are 132 rooms each with: interactive satellite TV, AC, direct dial phone, mini bar, safe, room service, hairdryer, internet connection, and complementary bathroom set.

The rooms are light and airy, and decorated in neutral colours. Some rooms have views onto Gran Via.

Hotel Location And Facilities

If you walk down the street the hotel is on (away from Gran Via), and turn left at the end, there’s a small shop where you can buy snacks, drinks and tinned and packet food. Although this area is a little run down, opposite the shop is a picturesque church.

On Gran Via itself, opposite the hotel you’ll see traditional shoe-shiners with their special chairs  - polishing shoes! Also within 5 minutes walk of the hotel on Gran via there’s Starbucks coffee bar and several café bars and banks. Gran Via also has several theatres. If you are prepared to walk for 20 minutes, you can even get to the Royal Palace, by first passing through Puerta del Sol Square.

How To Get From The Airport To The Hotel

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport will be about 30 minutes and cost 22 to 25 euros (including airport supplement), if there’s not an excess of traffic, and assuming there is no extra baggage that won’t fit inside the taxi.

Via Metro: There are lots of ways to get to Callao metro near the Tryp Cibeles Hotel Madrid. Line number 8 leaves from inside the airport between terminals 1 and 2. Below is the quickest route with the stations where you need to change listed:

Metro: Mar de Cristal (Pink Line, L8) Then change and head for Diego de Leon (Brown Line, L4) Then change and head for Callao (Green Line, L5).

Via Bus: You can take the red EMT public bus from the airport goes to Avenida America. The number bus that takes this route is the 115. From there it’s quicker to change to the metro.

The receptionist tells me that the prices fluctuate all the time. There isn’t a set high season or low season, but prices are likely to be higher during fiesta time.
