Review Hotel Carlos V Madrid
Page Content

I can only describe the reception area as magical. It has the sky painted on the ceiling, and curtains painted on the far doors. All the lights are golden, and the result is like something out of a fairy tale. There is also a useful rack of information leaflets about tourist attractions, and English language leaflets about the city. Plus the receptionist was knowledgeable about the area and the hotel.

Hotel Location And Facilities

I couldn't think of a more perfect location for a hotel if you want to see some of Madrid's most emblematic buildings and have access to nightlife and shopping. The Hotel Carlos V Madrid is in the heart of the area known as 'Madrid de los Austrias', which is the area between Gran Via and Puerta del Sol. Within a 20 minutes stroll you can go to the Royal Palace, and in just 10 minutes walk you're at the Plaza Mayor, which is alive with artists, street entertainers, bars and restaurants.

Opposite the hotel is a small aquarium, and if you turn left out of reception you'll only have to walk 20 metres to the main shopping street that stretches between Gran Via and Puerta del Sol. Right out of reception takes you on a more tranquil route to the picturesque Plaza de las Descalzas, where you'll find a monastery and a branch of the Thyssen-Bornemisza art museum.
For a wide variety of tapas bars and restaurants, head for the main shopping street and down to Sol square. It's only 1 minute walk to the big El Corte Ingles department store, where there's a supermarket, bookshop and clothing and electrical goods.
How to get to your hotel from Madrid-Barajas Airport
Booking your airport transport in advance onlineBooking your airport transport online in advance of your trip enables you to travel from Madrid-Barajas airport directly to the door of your hotel.
The online booked transfers listed below are not public transport operated services - which means they continue to run even if there is a public transport strike.
If you don't speak Spanish, and you are unfamiliar with Madrid, arranging your transport in advance will give you peace of mind and save you the trouble of working out the route yourself. You can either book a private transfer or a shared transfer.
Private transfer (online booking only)
A private transfer means that the vehicle that you have will be dedicated for you and your party only. The driver will be waiting for you at your arrivals gate with a sign with your name on it. Your driver will assist you with your luggage and take you to a private air conditioned vehicle to take you directly to your hotel. We have provided a booking link below.
Minibus transfer (online booking only)
A minibus option is cheaper than the private transfer and the vehicle is shared amongst other travellers. Unlike a private transfer the driver will not be waiting for you at the arrivals gate you would need to make your way to a meeting point.
