The Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid is in a beautiful building that used to be the church of the Holy Cross (Iglesia de la Santa Cruz). There's a pleasant square of the same name right outside, and the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid is in a peaceful area within walking distance of the commercial centre of Madrid. It was totally refurbished in 1997, and inside has a modern feel. It also has a stunning loft apartment for 2 people.
One of the most positive points about the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid, is its exceptionally friendly service. The staff seem genuinely happy to help you. As well as this the hotel has: a lift, 24-hour reception, vending machine in the lobby, comfortable lounge with TV, internet and free wi-fi in the café. The hotel provides a breakfast buffet at an extra charge, which you can enjoy on the first floor.
There were lots of useful tourist information leaflets in reception.
The Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid offers business travellers and groups a small hall for private meetings and parties of up to 30 people.
There are 31 rooms in the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid, and 1 suite. The suite is called the 'Suite de Palomar' and you'll find it in the loft. It has beautiful sloping beamed ceilings, parquet flooring, modern and colourful furniture, and best of all, its own private terrace on the roof with lovely views across the historic rooftops in this old quarter of Madrid.
The other rooms are equally as well decorated, and each one contains: a full en-suite bathroom, AC and CH that you can adjust from your room, satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, and a safe (double rooms only).
Another bonus of this hotel is that all rooms have external views to the street and the Plaza Santa Cruz.
From outside the Hotel Plaza Mayor Madrid I could here accordion players across the square, birds in the trees and the chatter of people sitting and taking it easy in the square. It's in a nice peaceful spot on a quiet road.
There's a lovely café - bar across the square called 'Corner Café' and they make a good breakfasts or lunchtime snacks. I've eaten there many times and it's reasonably priced.
A pedestrian street runs down the side of the hotel. With the hotel on your right, turn left out of this street and you'll see a big archway that is one of the entrances to the Plaza Mayor. This is a place to soak up the atmosphere while stopping in one of the many restaurants for a coffee.
Turn right out of the hotel and walk for 2 minutes and you'll come to an Arab Spa that also has a restaurant and tea room. You can even get a massage there. On the whole the architecture in this quarter of Madrid is exquisite and you can pass hours just strolling the streets. The main shops, bars and restaurants are also with 5 minutes if you head to Puerta del Sol.
Booking your airport transport online in advance of your trip enables you to travel from Madrid-Barajas airport directly to the door of your hotel.
The online booked transfers listed below are not public transport operated services - which means they continue to run even if there is a public transport strike.
If you don't speak Spanish, and you are unfamiliar with Madrid, arranging your transport in advance will give you peace of mind and save you the trouble of working out the route yourself. You can either book a private transfer or a shared transfer.
Private transfer (online booking only)
A private transfer means that the vehicle that you have will be dedicated for you and your party only. The driver will be waiting for you at your arrivals gate with a sign with your name on it. Your driver will assist you with your luggage and take you to a private air conditioned vehicle to take you directly to your hotel. We have provided a booking link below.
Minibus transfer (online booking only)
A minibus option is cheaper than the private transfer and the vehicle is shared amongst other travellers. Unlike a private transfer the driver will not be waiting for you at the arrivals gate you would need to make your way to a meeting point.
Follow the link below to book either your private transfer or minibus transfer online.
